Congressman Adam Schiff hosted a “Members Only” meeting of the ‘Congressional Friends of Jordan Caucus’ in the US House of Representatives this morning in the CVC Congressional Meeting Room with Jordan’s King Abdullah II.

According to one attendee in the session, “the King’s message was sobering.” King Abdullah seemed significantly concerned that conflict was about to break out again between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

One congressional source told me that the word the King used was ‘imminent’ with regard to the potential outbreak of war.

Iceland Volcano Brings Chaos
A VOLCANIC eruption in Iceland fired ash across northern Europe bringing chaos to air travel and melting a glacier, causing severe floods.

About 800 people have been forced to evacuate their homes around the Eyjafjallajokull volcano because the flooding cut roads and risked bringing down a bridge.

A huge cloud of ash from the second major eruption in Iceland in less than a month blew eastwards, closing major airports more than 1000 miles (1700km) away in London, where all flights were halted.

Nearly every airport in Norway, Denmark and across northern Sweden was also closed, authorities announced. There was also disruption in Finland.

Geoffrey Robertson, a renowned human rights lawyer and United Nations jurist, wants to see Pope Benedict put on trial for allegedly protecting predator priests.

In a Guardian UK piece making its rounds this week in Catholic circles, Robertson demanded the pope be “put in the dock” so that the church might “feel the full weight of international law” over its thousands of pedophilia scandals.

Obama Administration Authorizes CIA to Kill US Citizen

The Obama administration has lowered another legal barrier shielding Americans from extrajudicial punitive action by their own government, in this case authorizing the CIA to kill a US citizen suspected of having ties to al-Qaeda in Yemen and links to two attacks inside the United States last year.

Anwar al-Awlaki, a Muslim cleric born in New Mexico but now living in Yemen, may be the first US citizen targeted for assassination by the CIA under a counter-terror policy established by President George W. Bush and since embraced by President Barack Obama.

Israeli PM Netanyahu pulls out of US nuclear summit

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has cancelled a visit to the US where he was to attend a summit on nuclear security, Israeli officials say.

Mr Netanyahu made the decision after learning that Egypt and Turkey intended to raise the issue of Israel’s presumed nuclear arsenal, media reports said.

Mr Obama is due to host dozens of world leaders at the two-day conference, which begins in Washington on Monday.

Israel has never confirmed or denied that it possesses atomic weapons.
